In Southeast Asia, the practice of trading and consuming dog meat is widespread, and Cambodia is no exception. Here, numerous dog farms operate as de facto slaughterhouses, a reality that many find both disturbing and heartbreaking.
However, a dedicated group of individuals is working tirelessly to rescue dogs from such a fate.
Among these compassionate advocates is Michael Chour, the founder of The Sound of Animals, a rescue organization focused on saving dogs from the meat trade prevalent in Southeast Asia.

Chour has emerged as a prominent voice against this practice and has successfully rescued many dogs poised for slaughter.
One such rescue involved a dog that faced imminent death after being sold to a slaughterhouse. Tied up in a bag, the dog was surrounded by blood and mud, treated as mere cargo by his captors who seemed unaware of the cruelty of their actions.
Struggling to comprehend how he went from a cozy home to this dreadful situation, the dog’s fortunes turned when Michael Chour appeared.
Chour acted swiftly, purchasing the dog and transporting him to the Angkor Veterinary Clinic for immediate care.

To ensure the dog’s recovery, Chour relocated him to a temporary shelter in O Smach, Cambodia.
Here, veterinarians could monitor his health before transferring him to a more permanent home at The Sound of Animals’ expansive shelter in Ban Kruat District, Thailand.

The dedication and vision of Michael Chour are invaluable in the fight to save dogs from the horrors of the meat trade.
His compassion and unwavering commitment to animal welfare are truly commendable, and his actions offer hope and highlight the incredible impact one person can have in transforming the lives of vulnerable animals.
