In 2024, a heartwarming tale emerged about Obie, a dog who faced adversity but found hope and love. Abandoned and tied to a tree in the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in South Windsor, Connecticut, Obie’s story quickly became well-known.
A kind passerby discovered him and ensured his safety, leading to his rescue by the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter.
When Obie was found on April 22, he was mostly in good condition, although he had red eyes and a collar that was too tight around his neck, according to CT Insider.
Initially identified as “Kobe,” his name was changed to Obie upon reaching the shelter.
The dedicated staff at the shelter took immediate action by neutering, microchipping, and vaccinating Obie. Despite his tough experiences, Obie was described as sweet and friendly.
The shelter shared on Facebook, “His eyes are almost healed, and he is learning manners and personal space. He is LOVING all the attention from every person that meets him.”
As an investigation into his abandonment began, the former owner, 26-year-old Janiya Bradford from Manchester, Connecticut, surrendered herself and faced charges of animal cruelty, as reported by NBC Connecticut.
Recognizing the wide attention Obie’s story received, the shelter focused on finding the perfect home for him. Due to his aversion to men, Obie needed a female-only household where he could feel secure and decompress.
The search for a suitable home took several weeks. Though there were a couple of meetings and a no-show, none were the right match. TRACS posted on June 18, “With no fault on Obie, they just were not the right fit.”
Finally, after a 60-day wait, there was great news for Obie: he had found his forever home! The shelter proudly announced that Obie’s new owner fulfilled all their specific requirements, ensuring the perfect match for him.
Obie’s transition to his new life has been smooth, with help from his new doggy brother, Lovebug, who is helping him settle into his surroundings.
The shelter celebrated this success by sharing, “It’s happy endings like this that make the long wait worth it!”
