On a seemingly ordinary September morning, Leilani Slocumb left to drop her children off at school, expecting the day to proceed as usual. However, upon returning to her Georgia home, her routine took an unexpected turn.
There, on her front doorstep, lay a stray dog, looking up at her with a pleading yet hopeful gaze. The dog appeared thin and weary, indicating a long history of neglect and hardship.
Despite his condition, he had chosen Slocumb’s home as his last hope for help and comfort. She soon decided to name him Bo.
Initially startled, Bo retreated cautiously into the yard as Slocumb approached. Wanting to avoid scaring him further, she quietly set down a bowl of food.
The hungry dog ate every morsel and then looked up at her, his eyes showing gratitude for her kindness.
This simple act marked the beginning of trust between Bo and his new human friends. He lingered around the property as Slocumb’s husband and stepdaughter gently bathed him, and Slocumb made arrangements for a visit to the veterinarian.
Their gentle care seemed to put him at ease.
“He has really warmed up to us and is doing well,” Slocumb shared on TikTok.
At the vet’s office, Bo was diagnosed with mange and received appropriate treatment. When his microchip was scanned, there was hope that his family could be reached.
However, it turned out his previous owners no longer wanted him; they had given him away half a year ago to someone they couldn’t even remember. Despite these rejections, Bo remained gentle and ready to hope once more.
When it became clear Bo had no one else to turn to, Slocumb knew what she had to do. She decided Bo would become a part of her family.
“After a long day, we went home and Bo rolled straight in the dirt and was the happiest he’s been since he’s been with us. He knows he is home now,” she wrote.
Bo quickly adapted to his new life, playfully wagging his tail and following his new family everywhere. He soaked up every ounce of the love and attention offered to him.
Today, Bo thrives in the warmth and safety of his forever home, cherished by the family that he luckily found on that fateful morning.
What started as an ordinary day for Slocumb turned into the beginning of a profound bond between her and the dog who chose her doorstep.
