When it comes to rescuing abandoned dogs, individual efforts can be the difference between life and death. This was the case for Chance, a frightened and neglected pup from Texas who was left behind by his previous owners. His situation was dire, but a compassionate woman stepped up to change his fate.
Stephanie Garcia was looking out her kitchen window when she saw a lonely dog wandering in her neighbor’s yard. It was then she realized her neighbors had moved away, leaving Chance behind in the scorching heat.

“My neighbors left and took five of their dogs with them and left Chance behind,” Stephanie explained on TikTok. “I noticed and took action by immediately taking food and water.”
Despite providing urgent care, Stephanie faced challenges in securing official aid. When a local SPCA was unable to help because a judge had denied them a warrant, she was left to handle the situation alone. Other rescue groups were too full to lend a hand as well.
“The SPCA abandoned the abandonment case I reported because a judge wouldn’t grant a warrant to go on the property. And rescues were too full,” Stephanie added.

Without official support, Stephanie and her husband took matters into their own hands. They spent several days ensuring Chance had food and water while they awaited permission to access the property. Eventually, they were able to rescue him when someone arrived with a key to the house.
The rescue wasn’t simple. Traumatized and nervous, Chance spent most of his time hiding under a trailer. But Stephanie’s patience and kindness eventually won him over. Within days, he emerged to trust Stephanie, letting her pet him and following her to her garage. It marked the beginning of his adjustment into a loving home.
Chance was warmly welcomed into the Garcia family, where he soon met Stephanie’s four other dogs. Among them was a German Shepherd named Nova, another stray who quickly became Chance’s inseparable companion. Both dogs became permanent members of the family.

Chance began his healing journey with a diagnosis of heartworms, which was addressed with immediate treatment. Surrounded by a caring environment, his fears gradually subsided, revealing a loving and friendly dog beneath his trauma.
“Chance is an amazing dog and is not aggressive in any way, shape, or form. Just scared of quite literally everything. He’s safe and loved forever now with us,” Stephanie shared.
Chance, along with Nova and their new siblings, found joy and companionship in each other’s company. Stephanie reflected on the rewarding experience, saying, “Saving Chance and Nova has been such a blessing in disguise. I’m glad I was able to make a difference for two more dogs.”
Chance’s days of fear and neglect are over, filled now with happiness, play, and the affection he always deserved.
