An anxious German shepherd was seen lingering at a grave in Belgrade, Serbia, puzzling locals who assumed she was mourning her deceased owner.

For days, the dog remained near the grave, digging a hole beneath it and refusing to leave. But her intentions were not what they seemed.

In an unexpected twist, the German shepherd turned out to be a homeless dog and a new mother, desperate to care for her newborn puppies.

She had chosen the cemetery as a temporary shelter to keep her four puppies warm and safe from harsh weather. Despite her efforts, she struggled to feed and care for her vulnerable pups.

Thankfully, an animal rescuer named Vesna Mihajlowski heard about the situation and rushed to help. She carefully rescued the dog and her puppies from the “grave shelter” and brought them to safety.

At the shelter, the mother dog and her puppies received the medical care and nutrition they needed. With a warm place to rest and proper care, the little family soon began to thrive.
