An elephant calf at Samui Elephant Haven in Koh Samui, Thailand, recently stole the spotlight when he completely wrecked a massive birthday cake for his grandmother.
The playful moment was captured in a viral video that has since amassed nearly four million views on Twitter.
In the footage, the young elephant can be seen charging towards the cake, crafted from 12 stone of rice, pumpkin, watermelon, bananas, and grapes.
Despite the sweet treat being meant for his grandmother, the mischievous calf stomped on it almost immediately after spotting it, much to the amusement of onlookers.
The sanctuary offers a special service where animal lovers can donate cakes for elephants in exchange for a personalized video.
However, in this particular video, things didn’t go as planned. After trampling the cake, the calf even spit out a chunk of half-chewed watermelon, adding to the chaos.
Throughout the playful destruction, the calf’s grandmother remained unfazed, calmly eating the portions of the cake she could still reach.
The baby elephant, meanwhile, seemed to struggle with using his trunk, slipping and spreading the cake all over the grass. He buried his face in the cake at one point, turning the white dessert into a messy brown mash.
Although he managed to grab a piece of watermelon with his trunk, the calf quickly rejected it, spitting it back onto the cake before moving on to another untouched part.
His antics continued as he lay down on the food, covering himself in the cake, but his grandmother patiently kept nibbling away at the remaining slices.
Parents who watched the video found the baby elephant’s behavior all too familiar, comparing it to their children’s mischievous tendencies.
One viewer wrote, “Why are toddlers of every species such a menace?” Others said the calf’s behavior resembled dealing with toddlers at home.
Despite the mess, the little elephant eventually stood up, casually grabbed another slice of watermelon, and continued as though nothing had happened.
The once beautiful cake had been scattered far and wide, leaving his grandmother to handle the aftermath.
Social media users loved the moment, with one remarking, “That baby elephant moonwalked through the cake, buried his face in it, ate it, spit it out, and then laid on it. He’s bad, for sure.”
Another added humorously, “If elephants have the patience to be pregnant for three years, it’s no wonder the grandmother stayed so calm.”
