Scarlett Johansson, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in “Black Widow” and other blockbuster films, recently opened up about her battle with acne during her late teens and early twenties.
The 38-year-old star shared her painful memories and its impact on her confidence during her formative years in the film industry.

Speaking to the Stylist, Johansson recalled how seeing old photos of herself from family events brought back difficult memories. “I struggled with acne forever,” she said.
“My brother showed me photos of myself at a family thing when I was probably 19 or 20, and my skin quality is completely different.” She added that seeing those photos brought back all the painful memories associated with her struggle.
Images from the late 1990s show Johansson with visible pimples on her forehead. Despite working in an industry where appearance is heavily scrutinized, she tried her best to cope with her skin issues.

“I used to wear concealer to work in the morning, even though somebody was about to put make-up on my face,” she said, referring to her attempts to hide her acne.
Johansson also discussed how the messaging around acne back then was negative and often incorrect, leading her to use harsh products that dried out her skin.
“At that point, I was used the product I was prescribed and saw in the media. I would go through these cycles of drying out the acne and then having all this redness and irritation. It was a non-stop cycle.”

Her turning point came in her mid-to-late 20s when she adopted a gentler skincare routine. “I just couldn’t do it anymore,” she said. “I started using gentle products consistently, I began moisturizing, and within a week, my skin was completely different.”
Now, Johansson enjoys clear skin and has launched her skincare brand, The Outset. She mentioned that her friends had anticipated this move for a long time. “It’s funny because when I told my friends I was starting a skincare line, they were like, ‘Finally!'”
Johansson’s journey from struggling with acne to launching a skincare brand is a testament to her resilience and adaptability. Despite her challenges, she’s become a successful actress and entrepreneur.

The star, who does not use social media due to its harsh environment, continues to work on film projects and keep a low profile.
Her recent work includes advertisements for David Yurman jewelry, where shesmokedd in a pale blue dress that highlighted her clear skin and glamorous style.
Her upcoming film, “North Star,” features a cast of strong female leads, including Sienna Miller and Kristin Scott Thomas.

It tells the story of three sisters who return home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, forcing them to revisit the past and confront the future.
