A puppy named Rocky, once trapped beneath a mound of concrete and dirt, found himself on a remarkable journey from danger to a forever home in just one day.
When a biking family in South Carolina heard cries coming from beneath debris, they were surprised to find a distressed puppy in need of help. Without hesitation, they called 9-1-1 for assistance.
Responding swiftly, the North Charleston Fire Department and police arrived at the scene. They quickly realized the opening to reach Rocky was too narrow for an easy rescue.
Captain Paul Bryant, thinking on his feet, grabbed a shovel and began to dig, creating enough space to reach Rocky. After several minutes of determined work, Bryant successfully coaxed the frightened pup close enough to grab and pull him to safety.
Though no one could tell how long Rocky had been trapped, his immediate joy was evident. He showered Bryant with kisses, perhaps as a way of expressing his gratitude.
Taken to the Charleston Animal Society for a check-up, it was discovered that Rocky did not have a microchip. With no family to claim him, Captain Bryant made a heartwarming decision. Smitten with the puppy, he applied to adopt him.
Reflecting on the experience, Bryant said, “How can you not fall in love with him? You pull him out of the little rubble that he’s in, and the first thing he does is kisses you on the face.”
Just a few days later, Bryant received the exciting news that he could indeed adopt Rocky. Thrilled, he eagerly awaited the moment he could bring Rocky home.
Expressing his excitement, Bryant shared, “I want him. He’s my dog. It’s meant to be. Luckily, about a week later, I get a phone call that says, ‘Okay, you’re on the list, you’re the number one!’ So I found out I was gonna be able to adopt him.”
When the day finally came, Rocky was overjoyed to reunite with his rescuer. He greeted Bryant with enthusiastic kisses, now as his new guardian.
The pair enjoy a joyful life filled with games of fetch, long walks in nature, and many happy moments. Rocky, now much bigger, continues to be a source of endless affection, giving the most adorable kisses to his favorite person.
