When Animal Help Unlimited in India heard of a street dog needing urgent care, they promptly sent a team to assist.
The team discovered a dog named Penny, who had been hit by a car. Life is tough for stray animals in India, where there are over 30 million street dogs, as reported by the Humane Society. This situation, paired with high rates of rabies-related human fatalities, highlights the challenges faced by strays and the significant risks of injury or even death. Penny might have faced a similarly tragic fate if Animal Help Unlimited hadn’t intervened.
Upon finding Penny, the rescuers noticed she had a severely damaged eye. They immediately took her to their clinic, where an examination revealed that although the car accident hadn’t harmed the rest of her face, her eye injury was severe enough to require removal.
Despite her initial apprehension, Penny soon began to trust and bond with the caregivers at the rescue center. In just a day, her fear started to dissipate, and she began to reveal her true, vibrant personality.
Following her surgery and recovery, Penny transformed into an affectionate and spirited dog. “Love is seen with the heart, not the eyes,” a rescuer remarked, emphasizing that the surgery not only saved Penny from severe pain but also opened up a new and hopeful future for her.
Penny is now a lively and joyful dog with an abundance of love to share. Her life has changed dramatically for the better, and she will never face the perils of street life again.
