As evening settled in, Carla Stowe anticipated a quiet night at home. However, it wasn’t long before her peaceful evening took an unexpected turn.
Carla noticed something strange when her dogs began acting unusually restless. They seemed insistent, directing her attention toward the backyard as if urgently trying to communicate. Sensing something amiss, Carla decided to investigate.
Opening the back door, she ventured into her yard where an unexpected sight awaited her. In the glow of her flashlight, she spotted items unfamiliar to her—a yellow crate positioned conspicuously in the grass.

The crate wasn’t hers, and no one had sought permission to leave anything on her property.
As the president of Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue, Carla was seasoned in handling challenging situations. Yet, as she approached the crate, unease crept over her. This moment felt different.
Faint noises came from inside the crate, accompanied by a rhythmic tapping. Peering closely, she saw two sorrowful eyes through slits where the crate was bound tightly with duct tape. There was movement inside. A dog was trapped.
Carla recalled, “His head was down, but I could hear the constant thumping of his tail.” With urgency, she freed the dog by tearing away the heavy layers of duct tape and zip ties. As soon as the crate was open, the dog cautiously emerged.

Upon realizing it was a Pitbull, Carla felt her heart sink. Not only had someone abandoned a dog at her home, they had done so in a particularly cruel manner—leaving him trapped with no escape.
Despite the shock, there was some relief in knowing he was left somewhere where help was possible. Had he been deserted in a remote area or at a place opposed to animals, his situation could have been dire.
The dog, a black-and-white Pitbull named RD, was taken swiftly to Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue in Paris, Texas. Over time, RD began to adjust, growing more comfortable with the staff and other animals at the rescue center.

Carla remains hopeful a loving family will eventually welcome RD into their home, providing him the care and attention he deserves.
Data from WAF indicates that Pitbulls are among the most vulnerable dog breeds, facing higher risks than others. PETA reports they experience more mistreatment worldwide than any other breed.
In the U.S., one in four citizens holds a negative view of Pitbulls.
The statistics present a stark reality. Still, each rescue like RD’s offers a glimmer of hope—and with increased awareness and compassion, stories like his might one day become less frequent.
