After suffering a brutal attack by two other dogs, a dog named Legend urgently needed medical care, prompting Greenville County Animal Care to ask for a volunteer to take him to a veterinary clinic.
Legend’s dramatic rescue began when two women, while on a walk, were drawn to a commotion at a nearby home. On closer inspection, they found two Pit Bulls attacking Legend.
The local animal control was alerted, and all three dogs were subsequently taken to Greenville County Animal Care.

Alexay found Legend in a dire condition—the poor dog was covered in blood and riddled with bite wounds. His body was extensively marked with puncture wounds; his left ear was severely cut, and the right was barely attached.
“You could see all his puncture scars from his shoulders forward,” Alexay Rizzo shared with The Greenville News. “Blood was trickling from several serious injuries every time he moved.”

The emergency room veterinarian expressed uncertainty about Legend’s chances of survival. Though there were no broken bones, the overwhelming physical trauma he endured was concerning.
“A small body can only handle so much,” the vet explained.
Defying the odds, Legend proved to be a fighter. He underwent several surgeries, received fluids, and was placed on a feeding tube. With time, he began to show signs of improvement.

Initially, Legend’s wounds worsened over a few days, but he steadily started to recover. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC then stepped in to assist with the escalating medical expenses.
“We’re thrilled with how everything turned out and grateful he’s still with us,” said Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. “His journey is amazing, and he’s had a significant effect on our lives.”

Despite losing both ears and bearing scars, Legend remains joyful and can hear normally. His happiness is infectious, especially when he’s around Fran, his tail wagging enthusiastically.
Fran, who cares deeply for Legend, remarked, “If you judge a book by its cover, you might miss out on a wonderful story. He’s the sweetest dog I’ve ever cared for, always craving affection.”

While Fran is considering adopting Legend due to their strong bond, she acknowledges that doing so would mean she could no longer foster for Greenville County Animal Care, which urgently needs more volunteers.
For now, Fran and Rescue Dogs Rock NYC are actively searching for the perfect forever home for Legend.
